Evidence Division

The Valparaiso Police Department’s Evidence Division was established in 2005. This specialty group of officers was established to help with, discovering, collecting and processing evidence as needed for the department. The Evidence Division consists of 6 Evidence Specialists. Each patrol crew has one or two Evidence Specialists assigned to their crew.

The on-duty Specialists are utilized at crime scenes and generally assume the responsibility of crime scene management, security, evidence discovery, collection and preservation. Daily, Specialists are responsible for checking the evidence entry and packaging for their assigned crew. Each Evidence Specialist is on call one day per week .

Each Specialist must complete at least one 40 hour course in crime scene processing, most attend many more hours of training and continue to train in the field of crime scene processing.

Current members of the Evidence Division include, Coordinator Detective Sgt. Dave Castellanos, Sgt. Phil Spence, Officers Michelle Kodicek, Rob Fisher, Andrew Taylor and Keith Perez.
