Tim Maluga enters his sixth season as the head coach of the Purdue Calumet women's tennis program and third year as the head coach of the Peregrines' men's program. Maluga is the women's program inaugural coach, taking over the first-year team in 2010-11 before adding men's coaching duties prior to the 2013-14 campaign.
On the women's side, Maluga led the Peregrines to their best season to date in 2014-15, as Purdue Calumet finished the year with a 9-6 overall mark and 5-2 record in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play. The season included two firsts -- the program's first postseason victory in the CCAC Tournament and the team's first all-league selection in No. 1 singles player Lori Haas. The nine wins also set a new program record.
The Peregrine men's season highlight in 2014-15 was a huge victory over rival Calumet College of St. Joseph, snapping a winless streak dating back to the 2011-12 season.
In Maluga's five seasons at the helm, the Peregrines' have had 16 CCAC All-Academic selections, seven NAIA Daktronics Scholar-Athletes, one CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District honoree and one CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District selection.
Before Purdue Calumet, Maluga completed a highly decorated seven-year stint at NCAA Division I Valparaiso University. Maluga was a three-time Mid-Continent Conference Coach of the Year at Valpo, while guiding the Crusaders to three-straight conference titles and a pair of NCAA Division I Tournament berths.
He racked up 71 victories at Valpo, compiling an impressive 41-13 mark in conference matches. During that time, Maluga recruited and coached athletes that received all-conference recognition on 21 occasions, two MCC Newcomer-of-the-Year honors as well as back-to-back MCC Player-of-the-Year accolades.
Prior to his time at Valparaiso, Maluga spent 11 seasons at the helm of the Griffith High School boy’s and girl’s tennis teams.
Maluga has also served as a professor at various institutions in northwest Indiana and is currently teaching a number of classes in the business department at Purdue Calumet.
He's currently pursuing a doctorate’s degree in accounting from Argosy University. He received his master’s of business administration from Davenport University in 2006, while earning undergraduate degrees from Purdue Calumet (mathematics) in 1991 and Evansville University (finance) 1984.
