The Public Works tree crew consists of four certified line clearance tree technicians, including a nationally certified arborist. The team maintains city trees, including trimming, dead-wooding, pruning, and removals where necessary.
The City of Valparaiso is a nationally designated Tree City, and we value our trees for their beauty and their positive effect on our ecology and property values.
Recently the City of Valparaiso conducted an inventory of public trees throughout the city. The inventory includes locations, species and condition of all city trees as well as identifying future planting sites.
Trees located in the right of way or parkways (between the sidewalk and the street) are city property and are cared for and maintained by the city's tree crew. Contact Public Works at 219.462.4612 for any concerns about maintenance or removal of city-owned trees, or to clarify ownership of trees in question. It is important for property owners to alert the city, rather than treat a city-owned tree. Violations are subject to fines.
