The largest and most visible division in the Valparaiso Police Department is the Patrol Division. The Patrol Division is currently supervised by Captain David Richardson. Officers are divided into four crews that work 12-hour shifts. Individual crews have immediate supervisors of lieutenants and sergeants.
The City of Valparaiso is divided into different districts and officers are assigned to each district. When officers are assigned to particular areas of the city, it provides blanket coverage and enhances quicker response times when officers are needed throughout the city. The Patrol Division prides itself on providing a quick response and serving the community.
Every officer assigned to the Patrol Division is assigned a fully marked police car. The higher the visibility of police presence in the community, the less likely criminal activity will occur.
