To support its public art and arts community, the City of Valparaiso will host a Guided Art Walk at 6:00 pm on Thursday, June 24, 2021, at Cumberland Crossing. Art Administrator Kurt Gillins will serve as guide, sharing details of the 18 sculptures along the walk, including five new pieces installed earlier this month. The guided Art Walk is free, and registration is not required. Participants are encouraged to dress for the weather and meet near the Valpo Velocity bike share rack on Cumberland Crossing, just south of the YMCA parking lot. Light refreshments will be shared.
“This is the 10th year of the popular Art Walk at Cumberland Crossing and we wanted to mark the occasion with a special event and a way to get more people involved. We’re also launching a Community Choice Award, inviting the public to vote for their favorite sculpture along the Walk,” said Mayor Matt Murphy. “To add to the celebration of art, we’re also pleased to welcome back the free Valparaiso Art Festival downtown over the weekend on June 26 and 27.”
The Community Choice award winner will be recognized with special signage along the Walk, be considered for purchase by the City (pending its availability) and the winning artist will receive a prize basket of Valparaiso goods. The public may vote at tinyurl.com/ValpoArt through July 9, 2021.
