Jon Costas

A 1975 graduate of Valparaiso High School, Jon received his B.A. from St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Indiana, and his law degree with high distinction from Valparaiso University School for Law in 1989.  Mr. Costas is an attorney with Burke, Costanza and Carberry, LLP, and concentrates his practice in the field of Elder Law.
Jon Costas began his political career in 1985, winning an at-large seat on the Valparaiso City Council.  He has been Mayor since 2004 and has established a reputation as a collaborative leader who advocates both careful planning and bold action.  Valparaiso has flourished under Mr. Costas’ leadership and the city has gained national recognition for its vibrant downtown and award winning Central Park Plaza.  
The list of positive changes for Valparaiso is long, but it’s particularly satisfying to learn that the city is also in excellent shape financially, with minimal borrowing and a rainy-day fund approaching $4 million.  Mayor Costas enjoys a variety of activities, including running, speaking, music, theology and general aviation.  Jon was a contestant on the Gong Show in 1977 and the song he played can be found on his  album by The Conservadellics entitled Superhero  .  Jon and his wife, Sharon, have four adult children and an elderly canine named Lainie.
