George Douglas was selected to finish the City Council term of John Bowker, and George has since been selected as the City Council appointment to the Valparaiso Redevelopment Commission. George Douglas is a Senior Vice President of Indiana Beverage, Inc. and has been with the company since 2005.
George is a Valparaiso native and has lived here for most of his life. George graduated from Valparaiso High School and received his B.S. from Purdue University in political science and history.
He married his high school sweetheart, Julie Bodensteiner in 1992. They have three children: Madeleine, Samuel, and Sarah. Julie is an adjunct law professor at Notre Dame School of Law. Prior to his current position with Indiana Beverage, George was the Operations Manager for the Natural Ovens Bakery in Valparaiso. Previously he worked for the City of Valparaiso as an Assistant City Planner and Economic Development Planner, and he worked for PACT Bradley Center in Michigan City as a case manager.
George has served the community extensively as a volunteer board member and officer on many nonprofit and civic boards: Porter County PACT (Board President), The Northwest Indiana Workforce Board (Past Chairman), Valparaiso Family YMCA (Former Board Treasurer), Valparaiso Schools Foundation (Board Member), Valparaiso Redevelopment Commission (Past President), Northwest Indiana Forum (Past Board Member), The McMillan Family Foundation, among others.
