All Valparaiso firefighters are trained to deliver emergency pre-hospital medical care. Twenty-seven firefighters have received advanced training and are certified paramedics prepared to deliver basic and advanced life support services to the residents of the city and township 24 hours a day.

The department has four advanced life support (ALS) rescues (ambulances) and three basic life support (BLS) engines. Following assessment and treatment, patients are transported to Porter Valparaiso Hospital Campus or, in special circumstances, to other area hospitals.
