Treatment Plant

The plant's major treatment processes include physical settling, biological treatment, chemical addition for phosphorous removal and disinfection by ultraviolet irradiation. The treatment plant further provides approximately 4.25 million gallons per year of conditioned biosolids as a beneficial farmland fertilizer substitute for nearby growers in Porter County. The plant is operated and maintained for 24 hours each and every day of the year by the Department's highly trained professional staff. There are 16 members of the treatment plant's staff which includes certified operators, maintenance specialists, laboratory analysts, an environmental compliance regulator, administrative personnel and a management team.
