City Cemeteries

The city of Valparaiso owns and maintains three cemeteries: Memorial Park, Maplewood, and Union Street. Burial records for these cemeteries are available upon request. Please contact Public Works at 219.462.4612 for more information.

Cemetery Regulations & Guidelines

To Purchase a Burial Plot

There are currently plots available in Memorial Park Cemetery. To purchase a burial plot, please do the following:
  1. Contact our office at 219.462.4612 to set up a time to meet at the cemetery to choose a plot.
  2. Upon your selection, you will receive a description of the plot, which you may take to the funeral home of your choosing or City Hall at:

  3. If you are pre-planning, you will pay for your plots at City Hall, where you will also receive a deed for the plot

Standard Graves & Burials

  • Maximum headstone width is three feet for a single grave; maximum height is four feet
  • Standard grave - Four feet by 12 feet priced at $450 (single interment)
  • Standard burial costs - $450 for weekdays/$600 after-hours and on weekends or holidays

Cremation Graves & Burials

  • All headstones in cremation section of cemetery are required to be mounted flush with the ground
  • Cremation grave - Four feet by six feet, priced at $250 (double interment is permitted)
  • Cremation burial costs - $40 for weekdays/$60 on weekends and holidays (per interment)
  • Maximum headstone width is two feet per interment

General Rules & Regulations

  • Foundations are required for all headstones
  • No decorating of trees or bushes
  • No in-ground planting of trees, shrubs, bushes, plants, or flowers
  • The City of Valparaiso is not responsible for theft or vandalism
  • Water is not available on site
