Board of Zoning Appeals 

The Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) is a five (5) person, citizen board enabled through state statute to grant variances from the development standards, use variances, special exceptions and administrative relief.

Historic Preservation Commission

The Valparaiso Historic Preservation Commission serves as the City of Valparaiso's Official Historic Preservation Advisory Body to identify, preserve, protect and educate the public about Valparaiso's Historic Resources. 

Northwest Indiana Regional Planning Commission

The Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission (NIRPC) is a regional council of local governments serving the citizens of Lake, Porter,  and LaPorte Counties in Northwestern Indiana. Valparaiso has representatives on many Committee's and Commission's.  

Plan Commission 

The Plan Commission, oversee Planning and Zoning issues that affect the City of Valparaiso. The Plan Commission handles rezoning's, subdivisions, plat approvals, annexations etc. 

Site Review

Site review is a committee comprised of multiple city departments, some of those including: Building, Planning, Engineering, Utilities and Public Works. The Site Review Committee conducts site review every Tuesday and reviews proposed projects throughout the City of Valparaiso for compliance with Zoning Codes, Building Codes, City Requirements and any other standards that must be met. 

Valparaiso Redevelopment Commission

The Valparaiso Redevelopment Commission develops various projects aimed at redevelopment within the City of Valparaiso. A six (6) member commission has authority to expend tax increments funds (TIF) for approved projects.
