[ARCHIVED] Valpo Roadway Projects Moving Forward

Multi Mile Project

Valparaiso roadway enhancement projects are taking shape, preparing to make travel more efficient and add life to travel surfaces, according to City Engineer Mike Jabo. Some of the newest updates include:

  • Silhavy project
Beginning Oct. 19 southbound traffic will now travel on the east lanes as work begins on the west lanes. Similarly, at the Silhavy/Evans intersection, the roadway will open east of Evans and work will begin on the west side. The work on the west sides of the roadways is anticipated to move more quickly than the east and the project is expected to be substantially complete by Thanksgiving, weather permitting. Access to business and residences has been maintained throughout the project.

The Silhavy project includes new curb, gutter, storm sewer, plus a new signal and added turn lanes at the intersection of Silhavy and Evans.

  • Multi-mile project
This multi-mile project continues with improvements to Calumet Avenue from Morgan to Bullseye Lake, Roosevelt Road from LaPorte to Calumet, and Morgan Boulevard from Lincolnway to Calumet. To minimize disruption, much of this work in commercial areas has been accomplished during overnight hours, allowing crews to complete up to twice as much work as a daytime schedule. Striping will soon be complete at the Vale Park/Calumet/Roosevelt roundabout and work on all three roadways is expected to be substantially complete by Thanksgiving.

The multi-mile project includes structural resurfacing that will substantially extend the life of the roadway, plus pavement markings, curb repairs and sidewalk repairs along the roadway, including ADA ramps to improve accessibility.

  • Neighborhood, sidewalk and alley improvements are also underway, with individual neighborhoods notified as work progresses.
