Valpo Better Block
As a celebration of the Valparaiso Creative District Plan, the Planning Department hosted and event called the Valpo Better Block Project on Thursday August, 4th 2016. The better block project was a temporary installation that acted as a "living charrette" for community members to actively engage in the build out process and provide the city with feedback in real time about the creative district.
The temporary installation included items such as the following:temporary bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure, landscaping, seating, pop-up shops, art gallery, pop-up art and more to illustrate active streets and places. Creating these temporary installations we were able to help the community visualize some of the creative new ideas that could potentially be within the creative district corridor.
During the event, there was food trucks, vendors, and various activities that allowed attendees to interact with the entire installation and gave them a feeling of what activities and events could occur within the creative district. There as well were artists displaying their works throughout the event and performances from local performers. The images below show some of the elements incorporated in the Valpo Better Block Project.
